Frequently Asked Questions:
Does waxing make hair grow back faster?
Waxing reduces hair growth when performed at every four to five weeks. While shaving crops the hair at the skin’s surface, waxing pulls it out by the root, so it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. Waxing is great for those who are tired of the hassle of shaving several times per week. Hair growth can vary like the grass growing in seasons, so in Winter hair growth can slow and speed up in Summer. Varying up your treatment times between the four to six weeks can assist in getting hair at the different stages of growth. Discuss with your therapist what waxing cycle they would recommend for you.
How long does my hair have to be for waxing?
Hair needs to be about the length of a grain of rice to be able to be removed via a waxing treatment. When we leave the hair grow out to its full length and we wax, this could mean we are only removing the ‘resting’ hair and there is a brand new hair underneath so you may feel hair within a few days of waxing. It is best to be on a waxing cycle to get the best results from these treatments.
Why do I get ingrown hairs?
With a waxing treatment, we have also exfoliated the area by removing dead skin cells along with the hair. Because we have removed the hair from the root it will take longer to grow back. So, in this time our dead skin cells build up again, as the new hairs grow back finer, they are not strong enough to break through the outer skin layer. So, we need to help them by regularly exfoliating. We recommend gentle exfoliation 3-4 days post-waxing and continue daily. If you do get an ingrown hair you may prefer an exfoliating cream to aid in the removal along with a manual exfoliation. Try not to squeeze as this can cause post-inflammatory pigmentation and scarring. We recommend the Caron mitt and are available in salon to purchase.
How long does an eyebrow or eyelash tint last?
Tint used on eyebrows and eyelashes is a permanent colour. So therefore, when you feel like the colour has lessened it is likely that you have lost hair. The complete cycle of eyelashes can take anywhere from four to eleven months to complete. Eyebrows grow in a roughly three-to-four-month cycle. We recommend regular tinting to gain a cumulative effect, so the colour is stronger for the duration between treatments.
Should I trim before a Brazilian wax?
If it’s your first time, or it has been a while, we recommend trimming for your comfort prior to your appointment. Please do not trim too short. The length of a long grain of rice is perfect. In saying this, if you do not or cannot trim do not panic! Just be aware that it may be a bit more sensitive.
I have my period; can I still have waxing?
Of course. Just be aware that when you are menstruating, along with a few days before and after menstruation, you can be a bit more sensitive. If you are having any bikini or Brazilian waxing, we request you wear a tampon.
